Abdishukri Haybe is a Somali documentary photographer and journalist whose work explores conflict, displacement, identity, culture, and everyday life across the Horn of Africa. Formerly a journalist with the BBC, Haybe has worked as a freelance photographer for international news agencies, including Agence France-Presse (AFP), documenting stories across Somalia.

He previously served as Chief Special Photographer to the Prime Minister of Somalia, where he documented political events, official engagements, and some of the country’s most significant moments from within government.

Haybe’s practice is deeply rooted in his connection to the region. Born and raised in a nomadic family in the rural Ogaden region of Ethiopia’s Somali State, his early experiences shaped his understanding of photography as a way to document communities, preserve memory, and give visibility to stories that are often underrepresented.

His work takes him across the Horn of Africa, including Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti, where he documents communities and individuals navigating political, social, and environmental change. His photography combines the immediacy of journalism with a more intimate documentary approach, focusing on people, place, resilience, and the complexities of life in the region.
